JEE Mains Cutoff Expected Marks & Percentile January 2025: As we know JEE Mains January session exam is going to be held between 22nd to 23rd January 2025. So candidates have concern about the expected cutoff for this year. For all the students who are going to appear in JEE Mains exam this year, we have provided the previous year cutoff and this year’s expected cutoff so that the candidates can prepare accordingly.
What is JEE Mains and JEE Advance?
JEE Mains: This is basically a qualifying exam if we consider it as whole. In other words, the IIT JEE MAINS is an exam that you must clear if you want to appear in IIT JEE Advance Examination.
Criteria that must be fulfilled by candidates to appear in JEE Mains
Now who ever is going to attempt this exam must know that the eligibility criteria are reintroduced by NTA in year of 2025 for SC/ST and PwD students, a new category for transgender student is also introduced and not to mention a very well appreciated criteria of age. Let’s discuss these changes and all the other criteria that you must fulfill to appear in IIT Mains.
To appear in IIT JEE Mains exam candidate must have passed any of the following examination:
- Final exam of 10+2 from any recognized board in India i.e., ICSE, CBSE, SSC, UP Board, Uttarakhand board, or any other board from Indian education.
- Two-year pre-university exams from any recognized board or university.
- Final exam of the two-year Joint Services Wing course at the National Defense Academy.
- 10+2 final exam from National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).
- Higher Secondary certificate of vocational exam.
- A Three-years Diploma from any approved AICTE or any recognized State Technical Board.
- Any exam or diploma that is recognized equivalent to 10+2 level by the Association of Indian Universities.
- General Certificate Education Advance (A) Level by London, Cambridge and Sri Lanka.
- High School Certificate Exam from Cambridge University or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma from Geneva.
And the criteria that are introduced by the NTA in year 2025 for SC/ST and PwD and other classification of students are as follow:
- Relaxation in aggregated marks and for SC/ST and PwD students to appear in IIT JEE for the students who belongs to SC/ST and PwD category has been relaxed from 50% to 40%. That mean that student who belongs to SC/ST and PwD category must at least 40% marks in their 10+2 exams.
- Relaxation in age criteria for repeaters, this means the age criteria has been changed from 20 years to 22 years to appear in JEE Main, this means the student who are over age 20 years can now participate in examination.
- A new category for transgenders has been introduced this mean student who are transgender are to be now eligible to appear in JEE mains on the same basis as the other students.
JEE Mains Paper Wise Eligibility
- For BTech (Paper 1): the student must studied Mathematics and Physics as compulsory subjects, along with one additional subject which can either be Chemistry, Biology or any Technical Vocational Subject in their 10+2 Standard.
- For Arch (Paper 2A): the student must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in their 10+2 or any other equivalent exam with these subjects.
- For Plan (Paper 2B): the student must have done 10+2 or equivalent with mathematics as the compulsory subject.
Age Criteria
There are no such age criteria for the students who are appearing in IIT JEE exam, the students who have completed their 10+2 or equivalent in the year 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and those who are appearing in 2025.
Although there are no such age criteria for appearing in IIT JEE Mains but candidate must fulfil the criteria set by the institution for enrolling in their institution.

Marks Aggregated
- 75% marks must be aggregated by the student or ranked among the top 20% in their class.
- 75% marks are applicable for all the categories of students including SC/ST and PwD students also.
- Top 20% is only applicable for general category students. Other categories of students are not required to meet this criterion.
This criteria for 75% exam are applied to take enrollment in IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs).
Maximum Attempt Limit
Candidates have the option to participate in one or more sessions of JEE Main 2025.
There is no restriction on the number of attempts, and this policy applies equally to all categories of candidates.
For droppers who have taken the entrance exam once and did not pass, they are allowed to attempt it two additional times. However, they need to ensure that these attempts take place in three consecutive sessions; otherwise, they will not be permitted to participate.
